Renate Frotscher is a Dutch ceramic artist and designer based in France. Trained in graphic and multimedia design in Rotterdam, she spent two decades working in digital creativity before shifting her focus to clay. She established her studio in the Cantal region in 2019, developing a practice that merges sculptural form with functional design.
Her work is known for its raw stoneware surfaces, porcelain elements and precise handbuilt construction. Drawing on references from baroque ornament to geological textures, she creates contemporary ceramic pieces that sit between sculpture and collectible design. Each work is built entirely by hand, with visible traces of the process intentionally preserved.
Frotscher presents her work through two complementary branches: RenateFrotscher.Art, dedicated to sculptural and conceptual pieces, and Studio Renate, focused on collectible ceramic lighting, tables and mirrors. Her practice bridges the worlds of art, craft and design while maintaining a strong emphasis on material honesty and formal tension.
She lives and works in the Cantal, where she produces all pieces in small series or as unique works.
